Getting Started
When you open the calculator, you’ll see Auburn’s signature navy blue and orange colors with a “War Eagle!” greeting. The tool displays Auburn’s official grading scale at the top, so you can reference what each letter grade means in GPA points.
Adding Your Courses
Step 1: Enter Course Information
- In the “Course Name” field, type your class (like “MATH 1610 – Calculus I” or “HIST 1020”)
- Enter the credit hours for that course (most courses are 3 credits, but labs might be 1, and some advanced courses could be 4-6)
- Select your grade from the dropdown menu – it shows both the letter grade and GPA points (like “A (4.0)” or “B+ (3.5)”)
Step 2: Add More Courses
- Click the orange “+ Add Another Course” button to add additional classes
- Repeat the process for each course you want to include
- You can add as many courses as needed for a semester or your entire college career
Real-Time Calculations
As soon as you enter grades and credit hours, the calculator automatically updates your GPA. You don’t need to click any “calculate” button – it happens instantly! The calculator shows:
- Your GPA (displayed prominently in large numbers)
- Total Credits (how many credit hours you’ve entered)
- Quality Points (your GPA × total credits – this is what Auburn uses internally)
- Course Count (how many classes you’ve added)
Visual Feedback
The GPA number changes color based on your performance:
- Green for 3.5+ (excellent/Dean’s List territory)
- Yellow for 3.0-3.49 (good standing)
- Orange for 2.0-2.99 (needs improvement)
- Red for below 2.0 (academic warning)
Managing Your Courses
- Use the red “Remove” button next to any course to delete it
- You can edit any field at any time – just click and change the information
- The calculator always keeps at least one course row so you can’t accidentally delete everything
Practical Uses
Students typically use this calculator to:
- Plan ahead: “If I get a B in this class and an A in that one, what will my GPA be?”
- Track progress: Enter all completed courses to see current cumulative GPA
- Set goals: “What grades do I need this semester to reach a 3.5 GPA?”
- Compare scenarios: Easily change grades to see different “what if” situations
