8th Pay Commission Salary Calculator — Fitment Factor Estimator

At an assumed fitment factor of 2.28, a basic pay of ₹18,000 becomes ₹41,040. With DA at 58%, that is ₹12,600 (44.3%) more than the current basic plus DA of ₹28,440. Enter your basic, DA and a fitment factor to compare scenarios. No official fitment factor has been announced yet.

Understanding the Concept

The 8th Central Pay Commission was set up by the Government of India in 2025 to revise the pay, allowances and pensions of central government employees and pensioners. It has not yet submitted its recommendations, so no fitment factor or new pay matrix has been announced. Any figure you see, including those used here, is an estimate. The fitment factor is the multiplier applied to your current basic pay to fix your basic in the new pay matrix. The 7th Pay Commission used 2.57, which raised the minimum basic from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. Media reports and staff unions have discussed figures from about 1.92 to 2.86 for the 8th CPC. When a new pay matrix starts, dearness allowance (DA) resets to 0%, because the new basic already absorbs it. So the real increase is the new basic compared with your current basic plus DA, not with your basic alone. The percentage increase depends only on the fitment factor and DA: (fitment ÷ (1 + DA)) − 1. At a fitment of 2.28 and DA of 58%, every employee gets about 44.3% more, whatever their level. HRA, transport allowance and other allowances will also be revised, but they are not included here.

Calculation Formula & Mathematical Definition

Revised basic = Current basic × Fitment factor

Current basic + DA = Basic × (1 + DA ÷ 100). Increase = Revised basic − (Basic + DA). Increase % = (Fitment ÷ (1 + DA ÷ 100) − 1) × 100. The actual revised basic will be rounded to a cell in the new pay matrix.

Variable Definitions

  • Basic=Current basic pay: Your basic under the 7th CPC pay matrix
  • DA=Dearness allowance: Current DA as a percentage of basic
  • F=Fitment factor: Assumed multiplier; not yet announced for the 8th CPC

Step-by-Step Worked Example

Level 1: ₹18,000 basic, DA 58%, fitment 2.28

Input Parameters:
Basic: ₹18,000DA: 58%Fitment factor: 2.28
Calculation Steps:
  1. Revised basic = 18,000 × 2.28 = ₹41,040.
  2. Current basic + DA = 18,000 × 1.58 = ₹28,440.
  3. Increase = 41,040 − 28,440 = ₹12,600 (44.3%).
Final Result:Estimated new basic ₹41,040.

Same employee at fitment 1.92

Input Parameters:
Basic: ₹18,000DA: 58%Fitment factor: 1.92
Calculation Steps:
  1. Revised basic = 18,000 × 1.92 = ₹34,560.
  2. Increase = 34,560 − 28,440 = ₹6,120 (21.5%).
Final Result:Estimated new basic ₹34,560.

Level 10: ₹56,100 basic, DA 58%, fitment 2.28

Input Parameters:
Basic: ₹56,100DA: 58%Fitment factor: 2.28
Calculation Steps:
  1. Revised basic = 56,100 × 2.28 = ₹1,27,908.
  2. Current basic + DA = 56,100 × 1.58 = ₹88,638.
  3. Increase = ₹39,270, the same 44.3% as Level 1.
Final Result:Estimated new basic ₹1,27,908.

Practical Scenarios & Nuances

Financial planning: see a range of possible salaries before the commission reports.

Checking news claims: test any reported fitment factor against your own basic.

Pensioners: the same multiplier is usually applied to basic pension, so you can estimate a revised pension too.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Comparing the new basic with the old basic alone and ignoring DA, which overstates the rise.

Treating reported fitment factors as official before the government accepts the recommendations.

Forgetting that HRA and other allowances will be recalculated on the new basic.
